Although I'm far from computer illiterate--given my job as a professor I cannot be so--I've never really had an urge to use an online blog before. I much prefer talking to people face-to-face if given the opportunity. While online chatting is useful, I miss the nuances of voice, expression and body language available only when you are actually with someone. Emoticons scarcely fill that gap, but do help to some degree, I suppose.
But at any rate, here I am. My name is Gabriel--please, never Gabe--and I've lived in Revere eight years now. Most of you know me by sight and if not me, then certainly my son Ruben, who as they say, has never met a stranger. I myself have become somewhat withdrawn over the past two years, and this is my attempt to reconnect with the people in my neighborhood. So in that spirit, if you would like to ask me a question, I'll answer it, provided that I can ask a question of you in return.
And now I have ten minutes before my first class of the day, so I need to pack up and get myself there. College students will scatter like leaves in the wind if the professor is not there exactly on time. I certainly did, given the opportunity.
